Stained Glass Details | Leicester Cathedral

While working on the Leicester Cathedral Revealed project I spent quite some time wandering the ‘bird cage’ scaffolding which filled the entire space of the Cathedral to allow craftspeople access to restore the fabric of the building. As I walked around on the rickety wooden floor boards filming, I had the privilege to be ‘nose-to-pane’ with these stunning stained glass windows. I thought to myself that they've probably not been seen this close up since the artists painted them – some hundreds of years ago. I asked permission from the Cathedral to have access over a number of days to catalogue each window as best I could around the scaffolding (which is why you won’t see many wide shots). Look carefully and you'll see the air bubbles in the mouth-blown glass and even the fingerprints of the people who painted them.
